About Royal Dutch Shell Plc 'B'
Royal Dutch Shell Plc (LON:RDSB), commonly known as Shell, is an Anglo-Dutch multinational oil and gas company incorporated in the United Kingdom and headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Created in 2002 by the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum and UK-based Shell Transport & Trading, Shell is the second largest company in the world in terms of revenue and one of the six oil and gas "supermajors".
Shell operates in three segments: Upstream, Downstream and Corporate. Upstream combines the operating segments Upstream Americas and Upstream International, which are engaged in searching for and the recovery of natural gas and crude oil, the liquefaction and transportation of gas, and the extraction of bitumen from oil sands. Downstream is engaged in manufacturing, distribution and marketing activities for oil products and chemicals, in alternative energy (excluding wind) and carbon dioxide (CO2) management. Shellâs Corporate division represents the key support functions of the group.
The company holds interests in approximately 30 refineries, 1,500 storage tanks and 150 distribution facilities. It also operates approximately 44,000 service stations and sells differentiated fuels under the Shell V-Power brand.
Shell has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. As of 6 July 2012, it was the largest company on the FTSE, with a market capitalisation of Â£140.9 billion. It has secondary listings on Euronext Amsterdam and the New York Stock Exchange.
