About Thomas Cook Group plc

Thomas Cook Group plc (LON:TCG) is a British-based global travel company. It was established on June 19, 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG and MyTravel Group plc. Thomas Cook Group plc is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index of the London Stock Exchange.
The group operates within the tourism and travel industry under six geographic segments: UK, West & East Europe, Central Europe, Northern Europe, North America and Airlines Germany.
Its brands include Thomas Cook, Neilson, Airtours, Sunset,Cresta, Elegant Resorts, GoldMedal, and medhotels.com. In March 2012, it sold its rights in the Explorers Hotel (Explorers) to Verquin SAS. It completed the sale and leaseback of 11 Boeing 757 aircraft and eight Boeing 767 aircraft in August 2012. In May 2013, it disposed of Thomas Cook Canada Inc. and Thomas Cook USA Holdings, Inc. to Red Label Vacations Inc.
The company was founded in 1841 by Thomas Cook to carry temperance supporters by railway between the cities of Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Birmingham.
Thomas Cook Group owns, operates and manages travel agencies, tour operators and car hire agencies. It has its own fleets of aircraft and cruise ships and owns resort properties.
The group is headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Harriet Green is Group Chief Executive Officer.
In 2012, the group reported a record of 1.5 million travellers in its Northern European business. It almost collapsed in 2011 under £1 billion of debt. The euro crisis and the Arab spring, which adversely affected travel to popular destinations in Tunisia and Egypt, hit the group hard and eventually led to a £1.6 billion refinancing programme. Since Harriet Green took the helm in 2012 and launched a cost-cutting programme, Thomas Cook Group has returned to profit.
